The Caltech Micromachining Lab is in the department of Electrical Engineering, students in the lab graduate with Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering. However, applicants do not have to have EE undergrad background. In fact, the Caltech Micromachining Lab welcomes all prospective graduate student applicants who feel that they can contribute to our MEMS Research. It is important for applicants to realize that there is no "typical" applicant. For example, graduated and current members of the Lab do have very diverse background such as
Aerospace Engineering
Applied Physics
Astronomy
Computer Engineering
Computer Science
Engineering and Applied Science
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Navy Architecture and Ocean Engineering
Physics
Students who are interested in our graduate program are encouraged to follow the general Caltech Graduate Admission. It is important, however, to state in your application your interest to pursue MEMS research in the EE department. Please do not contact the lab directly.
